Two Months in the Arctic: Are We Really Starting to Feel at Home?
Two months. It’s hard to believe that we have already been living here in Guvåg, Vesterålen, Northern Norway for two months. Just a little while ago, we were driving north from Belgium with our family, our belongings and a dream that still felt a little bit unreal. Today, this place is starting to feel like home. The past two months have been a whirlwind of new experiences, paperwork and learning how life works in Norway. We’ve taken plenty of steps on the administrative side of things, and after a lot of waiting, forms and patience, we finally have our Norwegian fødselsnummer.
The kids have started school and are slowly finding their own rhythm here. And while they are discovering their new surroundings, we have also started working part-time alongside building FamiLYS Arctic Getaway. It’s not always easy to build a new life from scratch. There have been moments of doubt, plenty of practical challenges and more paperwork than we ever imagined. But there have also been so many little moments that make us stop and think: Yes. This is where we are supposed to be. The quiet. The mountains. The sea. The fresh air. The wildlife around us. The feeling of having more space, more nature and more time together as a family.
Slowly but surely, Norway is becoming more than the place we moved to.
It is becoming home. And now, while our new everyday life is taking shape, we are also getting closer and closer to the dream that started it all: FamiLYS Arctic Getaway.
There is still a lot to do before we open our doors. We are building, planning, connecting with cabin owners, creating experiences and putting all the pieces together to create something we truly believe in a different kind of Arctic holiday, where families can experience Northern Norway without having to organise everything themselves. We are still at the beginning of this adventure. But every step brings us a little closer. So, while we continue to build our new life and chase our dreams in the Arctic, will you follow along with us?
