Last week, my husband returned from an unforgettable adventure in the mountains of Southern Norway: a seven-day survival trek with Surviking.nl. Armed with little more than a backpack, a tent, and the will to embrace the wild, he spent a full week learning to navigate, camp, and live close to nature in one of the most raw and beautiful landscapes in the world.
It wasn’t just a hike. It was a lesson in simplicity. A reminder of how little we truly need when we are surrounded by wilderness. He cooked on open fires, pitched camp under vast skies, and woke each morning to silence broken only by wind, streams, or the crunch of boots on rugged trails. Norway didn’t just test him—it welcomed him.
While his experience was extreme in many ways, it touched on something we both deeply believe: that Norway isn’t just a place you visit, it’s a place you feel. When you strip away distractions, you discover connection—connection to nature, to yourself, and to those you share the journey with.
For anyone truly seeking adventure and wanting to learn more about nature—and how to survive in it—we wholeheartedly recommend Surviking. Their expert guidance, practical skills, and love for the wilderness make the experience unforgettable and empowering. https://www.surviking.nl/
This adventure has only strengthened our dream for FamiLYS Arctic Getaway in the North. We don’t expect our guests to sleep in tents or survive on campfires for a week! But the skills, experiences, and stories we gain from these journeys are exactly what we hope to share with our future guests, to inspire their own adventures and connection with nature.
The journey doesn’t stop here. Our next step is a wilderness first aid course, equipping us with the skills to handle emergencies in the wild. We are already looking forward to this next adventure and the added confidence it will bring, both for ourselves and for the experiences we hope to share with our future guests.
From rugged survival treks in the South to cozy family cabins in the North, Norway has a way of shaping stories you’ll carry for life. My husband’s trek is one of those stories, and our own adventures will continue to shape the experiences we offer. Soon, we hope to welcome others to create their own—wrapped in warmth, comfort, and the wonder of the Arctic.https://www.familysarcticgetaway.com/
